Girl Crush - Oscars 2015

You guys, I have never seen a more consistent beauty theme at an awards show EVER - the trifecta of the night was brows, contour and a decent lip.  Most of the women had a bold, defined eyebrow, some serious contour and a visible (not a lot of nudes) lip.  Here are some of my fave examples:

Ava DuVernay looked STUNNING and rocked Brows, Contour and Lip (BCL from here on out) as well as some gorgeous hair

Chloe Grace Moretz is growing into such a beauty and she took an easy breezy approach to BCL with a watermelon lip

Chrissy Teigen won deepest lip in all of the BCL ladies and looked beautiful doing so

Dakota Johnson has flawless skin and went with the strong brow, raspberry lip and a sensible pony

Emma Stone literally looks pretty all the time!  Her makeup was flawless and the waves in her hair were beyond

Jenna Dewan Tatum - lashes, immaculate skin and BCL - I think I would just stare at her all day

Okay - so winner Julianne Moore loves a lip but is not a contour or a brow girl - but her lashes and strawberry lip shade look perfect!

Kerry Washington was two out of three (soft lip) and worked a beautiful cheek highlight

Lady Gaga may look a little over the top but her makeup was actually totally classic

And speaking of classic makeup, Margot Robbie is another model for the Brow, Contour, Lip situation - how velvety do those lips look?!

Reese Witherspoon pulled her eyeshadow a little out past the lid but used a soft color so it works.  Soft lip but lots of contour, lots of brow.

Rosamund Pike looks like the perfect English rose to me.  A contoured English rose.

Sienna Miller is giving you MAJOR contour

I just loved Zoe Saldana's hair :)

And how gorgeous is Anna Kendrick?  Smoky eyes (a rarity last night!), soft lip but decent brow and lovely cheeks.

Drugstore Swaps - Part III

You guys love a good drugstore swap and so do I so here we go for Round 3 -

So here's what you need to know about this - while most pressed eyeshadows are NOT created equal in my experience most baked ones ARE.  That being said the ingredient list is a little bit better on the Sephora front in their Moonshadow Baked Palette - In The Nude ($27) as E.L.F.'s Baked Eyeshadow Palette's ($10) fifth ingredient is Mineral Oil but other than that, in my opinion, you're paying for pretty packaging.  And colors - it matters which palette you like more but in this case you'd have to decide if you value ingredients or dollars more.  It's a 50/50 split.

Argan Oil is all the rage and there are varying degrees of "purity" and fillers that people add when bottling it.  Josie Maran, the Grand Madame of said oil, offers a 1.7 oz bottle of 100% Pure Argan Oil for $48.  It's made with Certified Organic Argan Oil.  Physician's Formula has their new Ultra Nourishing Argan Oil which is $14.95 for 1 oz.  It is NOT Organic so it just depends on if that matters to you.  If so, I'd go with Josie, if not, I'd save some $ and go to the drugstore.

Lipgloss - who doesn't have four colors in their purse at this very moment?  Here's what you should know - the first couple (if not just the first) ingredients generally make up over 60-70% of the formula.  So you can spend $19 on Tarte's Lipsurgence Lip Gloss OR $5 on Jesse's Girl Liquid Glass Lip Gloss.  Both have a base of a petrochemical (Hydrogenated Polyisobutene for Tarte, Polybutene for Jesse's Girl) and then they add some other nicer oils (Jojoba for Tarte, Sunflower for JG) but on this one it's all about the color you want - if you can go cheap, go cheap!

In that vein, creamy buttery lipsticks are so yummy and there are two new ones on the market - Almay's Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks ($6.99) and Bite Beauty's Butter Cream Lipstick ($28).  Here's the deal - Bite's is SO MUCH BETTER.  Almay's has a base of Polybutene (high grade petrochemical) and then five ingredients in they throw in a dose of straight Petrolatum in there so I'm out.  Bite's has a Castor Seed Oil base and their fifth ingredient is Shea Butter - yes please!  In this case I would shell out the extra bucks.

I love a long-lasting eyeliner that won't smudge and stays all day - especially a skinny one!  In this case I would run, not walk, to the drugstore.  Rimmel's Scandaleyes Micro Eyeliner ($5.99) and blinc's Ultrathin Liquid Eyeliner Pen ($26) are both super thin, super black and stay a long time.  Rimmel it is!

Girl Crush - Grammy Awards Red Carpet 2015

Natural and glowy was the name of the game with a few exceptions at the Grammy Awards this year - take a look!

Natural Beauties -

The Queen Bee showed up looking fresh and soft with long beachy waves

Rhianna giving you brow perfection

Ciara's skin always looks immaculate and her slicked back hair gives those cheekbones focus

Gwen Stefani went with a pompadour, strong brow and lots of lashes

Nicki Minaj adding a little drama with a serious lash

Ariana Grande holds steady with her trademark ponytail and winged liner

The Wives -

Chrissy Teigen, married to John Legend, has mastered the cheek highlight

Love her or leave her, Kim Kardashian (Kanye West's wife) showed off a long bob and her makeup looked, as always, gorgeous

The Rebels -

Jessie J went natural in general but popped with wispy lashes and a merlot lip

Katy Perry's makeup choices were actually all super natural, with a little liner a'la Ariana, but her purple hair puts her in the Rebel category

Yes to Lady Gaga's silvery blue smoky lids and matching icy tresses

Megan Trainor channeled her inner Veronica Lake with waves in her hair and a scarlet lip

Rita Orr just looked beautiful to me - pixie hair, flawless skin, smoky eyes, inner eye highlight, matte lip - it was all working for me

Not super rebel-y but Taylor Swift pulled in a blue eyeliner top and bottom giving a little kick of color

Spotlight on Coconut Oil

People are cuckoo for coconuts - Coconut Water, Coconut Oil - you name it!  Why is this little fruit (technically a drupe) such a rockstar?  And why do we want it in our skincare?

Coconut Oil is high in Vitamin E which is a powerful anti-aging antioxidant that prevents premature aging and wrinkling of the skin - yes please!  It also repairs damaged skin and protects against cracking making it great for bodycare as well.

Coconut Oil is also full of proteins which contribute to cellular health and tissue repair and is also antibacterial/antifungal which makes it awesome for all ages and skintypes.

I like it so much I have Organic Coconut Oil in nine of my products - here's one of those as well as some of my other fave coconut products -

My Silk Cream's first ingredient is Organic Aloe Juice and the second is Organic Coconut Oil so the 77% organic formula is full of healing and antioxidant goodness.

I got a little sample pack of Burt's Bees goodies back in high school and have been on board with their Coconut Foot Creme ever since - it's super goopy and full of all sorts of other oils (Olive, Oat Kernel and more) and makes your feet SO soft!

I am always game for an awesome conditioner and Marc Anthony's (no, not that Marc Anthony) Hydrating Coconut Oil & Shea Butter Conditioner is crazy hydrating and smells like summer.

100 Percent Pure's Coconut Body Scrub uses two different kinds of Coconut in their sugar scrub that will buff all winter junk away.

Most sulfate-free cleansers (including mine) use an ingredients called Cocamidopropyl Betainamide and/or Disodium coco-Glucoside Citrate which are coconut-derived.  But if you're a wipe type of girl you can check out Yes to Coconuts Cleansing Wipes, targeting a drier skin, that uses both Coconut Oil and Coconut Water.

So get into the trend - it's worth it :)!
