Video Blog on Petrochemicals - No Bueno

"There's no petroleum in this stuff....right?"
If you hang out with me for any amount of time I will start to ask you questions about your lip balm as you pull it from your purse after we've wrapped up our lunch.  Then we'll start talking about your body lotion and possibly your concealer.  What do they all have in common?  They are the top products you can find petrochemicals in.  Petrochemicals, long story short, are derivatives of crude oil and are no bueno for you.

Click HERE to view the 2 minute video where we chat about what ingredients to avoid and why they stink :).
Other things made of petroleum
You can also click HERE for a past blogpost on petrochemicals in lip products.

New Product! Pumpkin Enzyme Mask

I don't know about you, but here in NYC we have fully stepped into Fall - sweaters and scarves are coming out as are boots and the occasional hat.  I have a good friend who is very big into "seasonally appropriate" situations and is part of the reason why I waited to launch my new Vegan Pumpkin Enzyme Mask til Autumn - but it's time!
Click HERE to see the video where I walk you through it (and it's now $35, not $40 as stated in the video - yay for prices going down!)

So here's the deal - Pumpkin is literally one of the happiest things you can put on your face - it's loaded with enzymes, antioxidants, zinc, iron and vitamins C and K which all help with skin cell turnover.

Maple Sugar, Lemons, Oranges, Sugar Cane
Combo that with Sugar Cane, Maple Sugar, Orange, Lemon and a little hit of Glycolic Acid to get additional chemical exfoliants that compliment the Alpha Hydroxy Acids in the Pumpkin.  Alpha hydroxy acids have been shown to promote smoother, younger-looking skin by increasing the rate of cell renewal - who doesn't want that?

Cinnamon, Ginger, Allspice and Nutmeg
Did I mention it smells exactly like pumpkin pie (with NO synthetic fragrances)?  No lie - Cinnamon, Ginger, Allspice and Nutmeg not only give it a wonderful aroma but serve purposes with additional benefits of soothing inflammation.
Bottom line - it smells awesome and retexturizes skin like no other!
It is Paraben, Petroleum, Added Fragrance and Mineral Oil-Free as well as being Vegan.

Birchbox Local NYC Event

Alright kids, if you haven't heard of Birchbox then get on the train because it is awesome!  Long story short, they search through all sorts of beauty goodies, pick their faves, send them to you in sample sizes every month and you get introduced to mainstream, as well as niche, products - everything from makeup, skincare, haircare, fragrance and body.  If you fall in love with something, or you already know you love it, you can buy the full sized product on their site.  There's currently a couple of weeks waitlist but check it out because the people who run the company are super savvy and total product junkies.

Tracy Reese at Fashion Week - Spring 2014

Mally Beauty makeup, Nails by Sally Hansen, lineup for show, sketches for show

The look at Tracy Reese's crazy beautiful Afro-Cuban inspired Fashion Show this past weekend was super clean skin with a serious black liquid liner cat eye designed by Mally Roncal of Mally Beauty.

The cutest couple in the tents - Mally and her husband, Phil
Here's what we used from the line:

Eye Opening Precision Liner in Black to line top of eye
Evercolor Starlight Pencil in Dark Chocolate for under the eye
Evercolor Starlight Pencil in Starshine for inner eye/tearduct
Effortless Airbrush Highlighter for inner eye/tearduct as well as cheek highlight
Orchid Lipstick from Pro Tricks Lip Palette on cheeks and lips
Brow Beauty Pencils
Brow Gel

Carolina and Asia - two of my girls - double click for larger image

My new favorite product is Mally's Eye Opening Precision Liner - it is NUTS.  It totally enables you to do the winged liner in the easiest way possible - watch the video on the purchase page at QVC HERE and she walks you through how to use it, she just doesn't extend it past the corner, but when doing a cat eye you just keep "walking it out" - watch the video if you have no idea what I'm talking about.  Also keep a jar of Pond's Cold Cream and a q-tip handy as that magical pair will fix ANY mistake you make.

My beautiful models :)

Hair by Ouidad with fun tatoo decals created for Tracy

Video Blog - 60 Second Makeup Touch-Up

Do you ever have crazy long days where you have 60-90 seconds to touch yourself up in the bathroom in between activities?  Me too and this is how you can do it on the fly -

It's Fall Ya'll! Makeup Trends Abound.

Vera Wang, Diane Von Furstenberg, Badgley Mischka and 3.1 Phillip Lim - double click on image for larger picture
Statement lips were everywhere and while there was a return to the oxblood/merlot shades from last fall (Vera Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim) there were fun pops of fuchsia and orangey reds (Diane Von Furstenberg and Badley Mischka respectively).  These shades from Erin's Faces are a great fit for the shine free lipstick shades that will last all day and won't dry your lips out OR if lipstick isn't your bag you can ease into the statement lip with a bold gloss for a more sheer look ~

Lipsticks:  Fuschia Flamingo, Orange-Red Marilyn, Merlot Ava
Mineral Lipglosses: Merlot Berry (shimmer), Fuschia Passion Plum, Merlot Currant

Glitter was muy popular folks!  You can either run into Ricky's and find a pot of shimmer or go to your MAC Counter - they've got it in nearly every shade.

Anna Sui, Chado Ralph Rucci
Winged liner is here to stay as shown at Anna Sui and Chado Ralph Rucci.  I prefer pots for this, not just because I make one, but because if you're going to go with a thicker line it's just easier with a thicker brush and that's something you have control over (brush size) with a pot gel/cream liner you can find HERE.

Onyx Eyeliner from Erin's Faces
Alexander Wang, Naeem Kahn
Brows were in full force nearly everywhere.  And, as you know, my favorite brow guru is Joey Healy.  His brow powders are my FAVE and if you just lay a little bit extra on of your shade you'll be on trend without looking like Eddie Munster.

Corduroy, Raven, Sable

Clockwise: Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu, J. Mendel, Michael Kors
Smoky eyes with a shot of color were also a bit hit for this season - they did a neutral slate smoke at Marc Jacobs, a bold purple at Jason Wu, summery bronze at J. Mendel and a bit of a pink/pebble shade with black at Michael Kors.  Night and Dusk Mineral Eyeshadows are two colors I reach for the most for smoky eyes (Dusk is a bit softer - less scary to work with) while Iris mimics the Jason Wu purple, Sunset is SPOT ON for J. Mendel and Pavement is a more workable color to me than pale pink to recreate the Michael Kors look.

Girl Crush - Grace Phipps

Grace Phipps
Okay, so you probably have no idea who Grace Phipps is.  Unless you're a 14 year old girl and then you totally know who Grace Phipps is.  I don't mean that rudely, I just mean that because she's worked primarily on shows targeting teenage girls including "The Vampire Diaries" (which is where I first saw her because I DO watch programming aimed at teenage girls).

Bottom line - this girl is GORGEOUS - ridiculously clear skin, huge blue eyes, long black hair - a modern day Snow White.  And because she's only 21 we get to play the super fun "watch her style evolve" game which is one of my faves.  Observe:

Obsessed.  A basically strapless floral print top, striped jacket and high waisted khaki.  This was 2010.
2011 - Don't you love this?!  Because I feel like we all have a shot like this - an interesting choice of a dress with an equally interesting cardigan on top.  And she's putting on a deep lipstick which we tend to do straight off the bat in the teen years when dressing up - love.
Now this was an awards show so of course she's going to look fancy but holy cow, right?  Beautiful - Veronica Lake inspired hair, glowing skin, soft smoky eye, light lip - yes.
Strong lip, soft bend in the hair, clean foundation.
Looking fresh faced with a raspberry lip at Comic Con

Total statement lip and a blowout - a girl's best friends.

Channeling her inner Carrie Bradshaw in 2013 with a tulle skirt, hair down and watermelon lip.
I feel like a shift happened at this point in the game - with flowers in her hair and minimal makeup

She is not a blush fan or bronzer fan - love the texture in her hair here.

Messy pony with matte lip - not a gloss girl either - I find her so fascinating because we're so different!
It's going to be fun to watch what she does :)!
