Healthy Sunscreen - Just in Time for Summer!

You guys!  I have an new Peptide SPF 30 Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB that I'm launching and finding this formula was like finding a unicorn - I'm over the moon to share it with you!!

Wait?  I thought you already had an SPF?
I had two and I am discontinuing them to replace them with this one.

Information has begun to come to light on physical vs. chemical sunscreens (grab your bottle - chances are high it's a chemical sunscreen).  Some chemical sunscreens are listed as

While physical sunscreens are listed as

So I'm switching from chemical sunscreen to physical - to be more healthy for you and for me.  More and more studies have come out since I launched my line outlining how chemical sunscreens, which enter into the bloodstream vs. physical which do not, are linked to hormonal disruption, skin allergies and potentially contribute to cancer (see the studies above for the breakdowns).  There are a whole list of sunscreen do's and don'ts HERE that are awesome (sprays are for the birds - who knew?!).

"Can we get in the pool yet?????"
Um, that stinks.  What else is different about them?
Chemical sunscreens absorb the sun's rays while physical sunscreens block the sun's rays.  Chemical sunscreens must be on for 20 minutes before they're effective while physical sunscreens are effective upon contact.  They also wear off and must be reapplied every 2 hours while physical sunscreens tend to stay put.

Not a great look
So why does everyone put chemical ingredients in their sunscreen?
Because they blend in super easily.  The one issue with Zinc/Titanium is they have a white cast to them and in the past have been super thick and hard to rub in.

My SunShield SPF 30 works on all these girls as well as a couple of shades deeper
Is this one different?
Yes!  It is 5% each of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide and is extremely lightweight and blendable!  I have tested it on every skintone imaginable - from super fair to deep chocolate girls and boys and it blends in on everyone.  It absolutely has to be rubbed in more than a chemical sunscreen but because the texture is so thin it's easy to do.  You apply, rub in and in a couple of minutes the white cast is gone.

Clockwise: Aloe Vera, Cucumbers, Avocados, Grapes, Blue Passion Flower
What else is in there?
So many good things you guys!!!  The base is a combo of Aloe Leaf Juice and Gel - super hydrating and yummy and then there's Cucumber (reduces hyper-pigmentation), Blue Passion Flower (anti-inflammatory), Avocado and Grapeseed Oils (nourishing) as well as Vitamin E (hardcore antioxidant).  There is NO Vitamin A/Retinyl Palmitate (something that is okay for evening, but not ideal for day).

Peptides keep your skin lifted - we like lifted!
Is it anti-aging?
Major league anti-aging!  It's a little nuts.  THREE different peptides help support collagen production to keep your skin firm and elastic instead of droopy and wrinkled.  Droopy and wrinkled are no fun.

I break out - is this going to mess up my face?
It is not oil free but it doesn't contain any oils that should give you any issues and they're low on the ingredient list.  It also contains silica which absorbs oil.  It's really lightweight so it actually feels lighter on the skin than my previous oil-free SPF.  And my test bunnies didn't break out from it, and neither did I, but you can always try a sample to be sure if you're nervous.

Is it safe/appropriate for my kids?
Totally - it's actually awesome for your kids and for babies over 6 months old (who can't wear sunscreen and have to stick with a hat).

Can I use it on my body?
You totally can but you may find another product a better fit financially for your body SPF.

Anything else special about it?
Yes!  A percentage of sales goes to CARE - an amazing organization that benefits women and children in crisis across the globe.

Speaking of that, how much is it?

Whoa!!  I am not a Kardashian!
Understood - my previous anti-aging SPF was 1.7 ounces and $48.  This is FOUR ounces - over TWICE the size - is $2 more and it's better for your skin on so many levels.  I promise - it's a great deal.

Okay - whew!  Got it.  Where can I buy it?!

Erin's Faces Swaps Part I

For a true Throwback Thursday here are some of the top sellers from my fancy department store days and the products I have at Erin's Faces that are awesome matches with bang-for-your-buck happiness as well as terrific ingredients -

This was the little brush that launched my entire line - literally!  I had been recommending Hourglass' Foundation Brush ($58) to my classes, was told I was nuts if I thought they would spend that on a brush and thus went in search for one I could offer that I loved for less $.  My Foundation Brush ($25) has a shorter head, because I was always pinching the Hourglass one to make it tighter, and it allows any foundation or tinted moisturizer to look airbrushed onto skin - it is fab and less than half the cost!

NARS' Contour Blush ($42) has a highlight and contour at 2.8 oz.  My Cheek Duo in Afternoon Delight ($22) has a highlight and contour at 4.8 oz.  Both have beautiful color payoff to help you shape your face as well as mirrored compact.  Nearly double the product for half the price?  Yes please!  A theme is starting of paying for packaging so just jump on the train because it will be a few stops before we get off.

Omorovicza is a BEAUTIFUL line that I got introduced to back when I worked at Bergdorf Goodman many moons ago.  They are from Budapest and are big into natural, petrochemical-free ingredients - love!  Their Rose Lifting Serum ($185 - 1 oz) has a Thermal Water and Rose Water base, Hyaluronic Acid and Fruit Extracts (Apple) to hydrate and treat skin.  My Rose Quench Serum ($60 - 1 oz) has a Rose Water base, Hyaluronic Acid and Fruit Extracts (Lemon, Bilberry, Cranberry) to hydrate and address sun damage as well as DMAE and Niacinimide for anti-aging.  Bang for your buck you can't beat it!

Okay - so this one made me a little frustrated after investigation.  Giorgio Armani has a beautiful makeup line - I love their foundations especially - and their counter is always packed.  The Regenessence High Lift Eyes Multi-Firming Rejuvenating Eye Balm is $110 for .6 of an oz.  Of the first eight ingredients you've got three silicones (click HERE to get my thoughts on silicones in anti-aging products) and two petrochemicals (I talked about that HERE).  Jojoba Butter is the fourth ingredient which is great but you don't get another anti-ager until the 19th ingredient which is a mushroom extract.  Flip to my Organic Peptide Eye Cream which is $49 one full ounce.  Within the first eight ingredients you've got an Aloe Vera base, Sunflower Seed Oil, Yeast (crazy anti-aging) and Rose Root.  The Hexapeptides come in right after and are followed by flower and herb oils.  You guys, I have no idea why Armani is charging that much for their eye cream but it is a lesson in READ YOUR LABELS!

I am all for a lash enhancer that, unlike Latisse, won't discolor your eyelids, or actual irises - yikes!, which is why I came out with mine.  Trish McEvoy is a phenomenal makeup artist whose Lash Enhancer ($110) has awesome ingredients -  Pentapeptides, Hyaluronic Acid, Pantheol, Silk Amino Acids and Aloe Vera.  My Lash Enhancer ($65) also has awesome ingredients - two Pentapeptides, Hyaluronic Acid, Pantheol, Wheat Protein and Rose Water.  So if you're on a budget you can get a really similar formula for almost $50 less.

Whenever someone would walk into Sephora and ask for a red lipstick, no matter who I was working for at the time, I would take them over to NARS and generally we settled on Red Lizard or Jungle Red ($26).  They had the best reds with the best staying power in the store.  Since doing research I have learned that Red Lizard ranks in the top three lipsticks in the world for lead.  As in horrible for you to ingest, carcinogenic lead.  So, I love my Red Lipstick (or Marilyn! - $16) because it's a beautiful shade, stays put, won't bleed, is $10 cheaper and, oh, doesn't contain lead.

More Erin's Faces swaps to come!

My Latest Obsession - Jenna Hipp Essential Nail & Hand Cream

I was walking down the aisle of Costco and saw these pretty tubes of Jenna Hipp's Essential Nail & Hand Cream.  I am a sucker for hand cream but am consistently let down with thin formulas or lousy ingredients.  This one is AWESOME!

Made with 20% Shea Butter the ingredient list is top notch - no parabens, phthalates, gluten, synthetic dyes, PEGs or artificial fragrance.  Orange, Rosemary, Lavender and Eucalyptus Oils lend a fresh natural scent and the texture is wonderful!

My usual rec is L'occitane's Shea Butter Hand Cream (also with 20% Shea Butter) which is $28 for 5.2 oz.  Each tube of Jenna's is 4 oz and I got all three for under $15 - yes please!  They're listed at $20 online but were cheaper in store.  You could buy the Costco membership for $50 and still save money!

A Wedding Emergency

Imagine you've gotten engaged - yay!  You pick a dress, find a photographer and finally settle on the venue of your dreams.  You make your payments to said venue, friends and family have purchased airline tickets to come to your magical wedding and all is right with the world.  Until, three months before your wedding, the venue closes and you lose every penny you've given them AND have to figure out where to have your day and how to pay for it now that all of your money is gone.  IT HAPPENED.  The venue Rebar in Brooklyn closed last Friday citing bankruptcy and four of my dear friends, all Erin's Faces users, were slated to get married there in August, September and October of this year (I'm even slated to do makeup for one of the weddings!).

Tara, who I got to work with on this headshot, is a wonderful friend who I have spent many evenings reading through Brene Brown's "The Gifts of Imperfection".  She also loves a full lash so we are soul mates.
Billy is just sweetness on a stick and he and I have spent countless shoots together as he's an amazing photographer, and he's the one who takes all of my product pics for Erin's Faces so he rocks on multiple levels.  His husband to be also made an awesome intro video for my YouTube vlogs, just because.
Maggie, sporting her Erin's Faces red lip!, is hysterical, donated her time to be one of my models for my NBC spot and is a lover of all things magic dust - we get along very well :).  She also works for Broadway Impact helping fight for marriage equality.  Ironic, no?

So you guys, I'm asking for your help.  Even if it's just $5, it'll help.  There is an Indiegogo Fundraising Page HERE where you can read about each couple and help them recoup the $33,000 that, between the three of them, they've invested and lost. If they make more than that then the extra money will go towards a marriage equality organization to further the mission of giving more couples the opportunity to marry.

Let's help these kids get married!

Girl Crush - Christina Hendricks

Okay - so is there anybody who doesn't have a crush on this girl?  If so, I haven't met them.  Beauty-wise Christina tends to stick with a statement lip and fresh, dewy skin and rolls with a silver shimmer shadow on the regular.  She tends to experiment more on the hair end of things.  If she isn't doing a bold lip then she veers for fresh all over and isn't afraid of a lash - another reason to love her.

Strong lips ~

Love this - soft curls, silver shadow, liner and a raspberry lip

A rare glossed lip, softer brows and shimmering white shadow

Orangey-er lip shade

Love this hair and pop of poppy on the lips

Sporting a berry lip and highlight on the apples of the cheeks

Totally workable office look - clean with a deep rose lip

Orange-red shade, embracing her fair skin

A little smoke and she finally gets to grow her hair out!!! (now that the show's finished shooting)

So fun!  The hair, lips, smoky eye - everything.

I am a fan of laid back hair with an evening gown so I loved this look

Modern blowout with a sideswept bang

Channeling her inner flapper with soft curls and a red lip

Fresh Face Beauty ~

Garden party anyone?  Isn't this perfect for Spring?

One of my FAVORITES - Grecian hair, gilded lids, crazy doll lashes, flushed cheeks, soft pink lips - I want her to look like this every day :)

And this!  This girl works a soft silver shimmer shadow like none other.

Soft and approachable

Again with silver shadow (it is her jam!), crazy long lashes cool toned pink lip - yes please

More of a winged shadow situation, out of the norm for her, with a pretty updo

Totally out of the norm for her but I LOVE it - SUPER smoky eyes and a nude lip

And I just love her fingerwaves in this one - she's just kind of it for me in general

Vacation Hair - The Perfect Braid

Click here for video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k97r7LMbg7w&feature=youtu.be

This is the go-to hairstyle I consistently fall back on when it's hot outside, my hair is super dirty or I am just feeling like a braid.  It's actually three braids in one but is a LOT easier than it sounds and takes about 90 seconds to do.  Enjoy!
